Commitment to and preparation for intelligent conversation is also important. The following will help (draft list):
Required:
Across the Olympic Mountains: Press Expedition, Of Mice and Men, The Restraint of Beasts, Walk Hard
Recommended:
The Winter of Our Discontent, Beyond Backpacking: Ray Jardine's Guide to Lightweight Hiking (not the umbrella though), An Appointment in Samara, Grapes of Wrath, Gettysburg (we should have gone round to the right), Little Big Man (sometimes grass don't grow), Portlandia, Complete Book of Running, Seventh Son.
Not Recommended:
Born to Run (the book, not the song)
Across the Olympic Mountains: Press Expedition. I've never actually read, but it teaches us a lesson about over-preparedness. In 1889 the Press Expedition made the north to south crossing in 5 and one half months.
ReplyDeleteOf Mice and Men (Steinbeck), teaches, among other things, the dangers taking in the scenery and being told how good it is going to be when we get there.
The Restraint of Beasts teaches among other things about efficiency planning.
Walk Hard teaches us among other things about the importance of not loosing ourselves.
Winter of Our Discontent, teaches about how hard self-improvement can be, how short-cuts can really hurt, and how in the end plain stupid luck is often needed to succeed.
Jardine's Guide, gives some great tips about light weight packing.
An Appointment in Samara (O'Hara) teaches us about the importance of not always following our first impulses.
Little Big Man teaches us that while there are good times, they don't last forever.
Mora's Training goals for month of March:
ReplyDelete1) distances of at least 10 miles per day at least 4 times per week.
2) lose back three pounds gained this winter
